Adnan Syed whose trial was put to death for the “serial” podcast, was denied a new trial on Friday by the highest court in Maryland, which reflected the court’s decision last year as Adnan Syed Serial Update.
Mr. Adnan Syed has been serving a life sentence since 2000, when he was convicted of killing Hae Min Lee, a 17-year-old high school classmate who had been cheaper. He has maintained his innocence, and Podcast drew wide attention to his cause.
A decision by the Maryland Special Court of Appeal found last year that Mr. Adnan Syed Serial Update had received an ineffective legal counsel in his trial and that his conviction should be released.
Magic continued with Adnan Syed and Hae Min Lee only. A new series of HBO series “The Case against Adnan Syed” was prepared on 10 March and promises more in-depth answers to the outstanding questions in the case that is still fighting in the courts today.
Take a look at one of the stories that helped launch an era of real crime mania.
In 2016, a lower court ordered the re-trial of Adnan Syed Serial Update on the grounds that his lawyer, Christina Gutierrez, who died in 2004, did not contact a witness in error and provided an ineffective lawyer. The State resumed. The Special Court of Appeal upheld the lower court’s ruling last year and the state also appealed the decision.
Sir Justin Brown’s lawyer said in a statement that they were “devastated” by the decision, “but we will not give up Adnan Syed.”
